the building:
The stone building erected between about 1280 and 1300, the north side of which abuts the city wall, is now regarded as the best preserved medieval patrician house in a North German city. Despite alterations between the 17th and 19th centuries, the medieval form of the building is still clearly discernable. From 1493 the house was in the possession of the Stralsund Kramercompagnie, the Small Traders’ Guild. The hall of the principle building was used for meetings and festivities. From 1820, apartments were built in to house the widows of guild members. Comprehensive rehabilitation is currently being carried out.
